“Possessions, outward success, publicity, luxury - to me these have always been contemptible. I believe that a simple and unassuming manner of life is best for everyone, best for both the body and the mind.”

The first week

I hope that everyone had a beautiful Christmas and a happy New Year. Welcome to 2014! The year to Cull The Crap.

Now I am only 5 days in and I'm doing ok. As you may know if you have been reading this blog before now, my New Years resolution is not to buy anything new for a year and so far it's going pretty darn well. Although there is still a long way to go.

New Year's Day  I had my first hiccup. I was on the way the the beach and thought it would be a good idea to get one of those spray bottle fans to keep cool while sunbaking. Nope! had to stop myself! First of all there was the packaging, it was made in China, required batteries and a small screw driver to open the back, I opted for a regular spray bottle. I saved myself the cash and the trip to the shops and stayed with my plan. And it did the trick quite well. It's a bit funny I just about slipped up on my first day.

Other than that I have thought about a few things I "need" to buy. An esky and a beach tent but I will have to opt for something from ebay or gumtree second hand. But that's no problem at all!

Not only in the holidays did I eat some delicious food and hang out with family and friends I managed to get to the op shops in my area to scope out what was on offer. I was amazed, there were heaps of almost new dresses, cute leather skirts, shoes that looked like they have never been worn and a abundance of office wear. I felt like I would be ok for the year. I recomend checking them out every once in a while.

These were the buy of the day I think!

Well here we go, another year! But for me this one will be a much different.

Stay simple and Cull the Crap.
